I am an author, blogger, columnist, and writer with a reflective and analytical approach to complex societal issues. My work covers a range of topics including cultural preservation, intergenerational trauma, and mental health. By integrating interviews and diverse perspectives, I aim to foster a deeper understanding of these nuanced issues.
I was born and raised in Canada in 1975 to Indo (Indische Nederlander) parents, part of a Dutch Indonesian ethnic group formed through ethnogenesis, with Dutch legal status during the colonial era of the Dutch East Indies. My parents were born and raised there and survived the Bersiap period—a time marked by genocide and upheaval. After this turbulent period, they and their families were displaced from the newly formed nation of Indonesia in what is often referred to as the 'misplacement' and were subsequently repatriated to the Netherlands. In the mid-1960s, they immigrated to Canada to start a new chapter in life.
